POST MATCH HOSPITALITY

If there are any willing volunteers out there who want to contribute to the post match experience, then Claire Rees has kindly offered to co-ordinate a combined U7’s & U8’s hot dog ‘rota’ of sturdy souls to organise the purchasing, cooking and distributing of the food. Purchases will be refunded on presentation of a receipt from Club funds. Claire can be contacted on 01792 419190 or 07920250314 or claire.rees@astrazeneca.com siaran99 linkslot99

South Gower Match Report

Some great rugby was enjoyed by both teams on Sunday with some excellent skills on show. The South Gower Seahorses were evidently a well drilled team with some talented individual players, matched by a no less talented and enthusiastic large group of Vikings. Well done to all, including once again two very good natured sets of supporters who needed to give the sometimes dubious refereeing plenty of leeway. siaran99 linkslot99

Sunday 25th October

The arrangements are to meet at 10.30 am at Bishopston once again, but this time for a training session rather than a match. Lee Thomas has very kindly offered to hold the training session this week to allow me a half term weekend break, and he can be contacted on 07702887129 if you have any further queries or if you would like to offer him any assistance. siaran99 linkslot99

Sunday 1st November

10.30 a.m. at Bishopston School again this week. siaran99 linkslot99

TRAINING CANCELLED FOR 01/11/09

Even though the current monsoon conditions are forecast to improve through the day, and it would have been a testing skill session to hold a 'sub aqua rugby session', the pitches themselves have unfortunately been confirmed as waterlogged and unplayable by Bishopston sports centre. You should hopefully have received a 'Teamer' text message informing you of the cancellation, but it is always worthwhile to also check this blog on the morning of every session for any last minute changes as late as 9.30am.) Please also feel free to contact Bishopston on 235040 or Underhill on 205522 or myself on 361870 for any further clarification. siaran99 linkslot99

SUNDAY 8th NOVEMBER

A soccer pitch has been booked at Underhill for a training session starting at 10.30am with a possible game at 11am against Uplands U7's. The 2 rugby pitches are already booked, so weather and Parks Dep't permitting, we will be allocated one of the 5 soccer pitches at Underhill Park, (probably the 'top' soccer pitch but also possibly the pitch over the hedge by the playground). As stated last week, with heavy rain forecast at present for Friday and Saturday, it will be important to check the blog at 09.30am Sunday before setting off, to see if "Underwater Park" once again lives up to it's now infamous reputation. If all else fails, you can always take some bread down and feed the ducks on the 'pond' (sorry - rugby pitch)! siaran99 linkslot99

TRAINING & MATCH IS STILL ON !

Aplogies for the VERY late notice this week, but we have been let down by the groundstaff at Underhill who didn't contact the Parks Dep't by 09.30hrs as they are supposed to. siaran99 linkslot99

UPLANDS R.F.C. MATCH REPORT

Once again "rugby was the winner", and hopefully everyone enjoyed both the game and their hot dogs at the Rugby Club. Thanks go to a well drilled Uplands team for playing 2 sets of Mumbles Vikings teams captained by Luca and Josh respectively. Uplands showed some good individual skills and supporting of the ball carrier, with both teams' parents providing good natured and positive support . Thanks also go to Paul Cawsey Williams for his assistance, - if anyone else fancies helping out on either the rugby or catering front then please don't be shy - volunteers are always welcome (but apologies if I don't manage to include everyone every week). If you do fancy helping out, then please feel free to contact me on 01792 361870 or 07974747993or gbroad@live.co.uk before the Sunday to confirm your availability, and it will give me a chance to think of some drills and split the squad accordingly. siaran99 linkslot99

Sunday 15th November

This Sunday we will host Gowerton RFC at Bishopston School 10.30am with hot dogs at Mumbles Cricket Club afterwards at 12pm. siaran99 linkslot99

GAME CANCELLED FOR 15/11/09

The pitches have unfortunately been confirmed as waterlogged and unplayable by Bishopston sports centre. You should hopefully also receive a 'Teamer' text message informing you of the cancellation. siaran99 linkslot99

LOUGHER GAME CANCELLED

Once again this month, the weather has unfortunately been the winner instead of the rugby. siaran99 linkslot99

Sunday 29th November

Whilst the weather continues to push the boundaries, we are hoping to be able to host Waunarlwydd at 10.30am at Bishopston School with hot dogs provided at the Cricket club 12.00-12.30pm. Please ensure you check the blog between 09.30hrs and 10.00hrs before you leave on Sunday morning and/or switch on your mobile phones to receive a Teamer text for notification of any cancellation. siaran99 linkslot99

Rain Rain, Go Away..............!

Following a common theme this month, I'm sorry to say that the pitches have unfortunately once again been confirmed as waterlogged and unplayable by Bishopston sports centre. Hopefully we will get less rain in December to allow us to play some rugby. siaran99 linkslot99

Swansea Uplands this Sunday

With the weather seemingly drier this week we are hopeful for a run out at Swansea Uplands this Sunday. Meet at their club around 1020hrs. Directions to their club can be found here . siaran99 linkslot99

Uplands Game Cancelled

When will the rain end? ............... probably when the snow starts! siaran99 linkslot99

BUYING PRESENTS USING AMAZON?

If so you can help the club raise funds by using the link posted on the Mumbles Wildcats blog (see sidebar). It will cost no more than the price through Amazon would anyway, but the club will receive a small % of the value of the goods as cashback from Amazon. siaran99 linkslot99

looking positive for Sunday!

Hip hip hooray! The sun is shining and with the forecast looking positive, we are hoping for one last tag game before 2010 is upon us. Pontardulais have confirmed they have a team for us to play. Please be at Bishopston soon after 10am, hopefully we will have a 10.30 kick off. We are also hoping for a Vikings vs Dads, Mums, Grampa, Grandma, Uncle, Auntie extravaganza on the 20th December. More details to follow. See you all on Sunday for the match! siaran99 linkslot99

PONTARDDULAIS (BONT) REPORT

I felt genuine progress was being made in a (purposely) short match against a very enthusiastic and competitive U8's Bont outfit that have had a full 12 months more experience than us. The Vikings seemed to take a bit of the concept of supporting the ball carrier (which we practised beforehand) into the match, more than before. The fact that we had a game of any description was a triumph in itself after all the rain in the last 6-7 weeks, and given the cold conditions I thought everyone did fantastically well(especially all parents stood freezing on the touchline) - your steadfast support is really appreciated. On that note, you will all have the opportunity to keep warm this Sunday at Underhill Park in the Xmas Players v Parents match - Mums, Dads, Gramps and Grans not to mention Aunts and Uncles are all welcome to join in - Santa hats and red tops are obligatory for all Adults since it is Christmas!(times to be advised). We will combine with the u6's and play on the top socce...

FUNDAY 20th DECEMBER

Please accept my apologies to all, the Funday is this Sunday the 20th December (not 27th as originally posted). A nice lay in awaits this week with a later kick off time of 11am for the Parents v Players game at Underhill Park, then all back to the Rugby Club after the match. siaran99 linkslot99

The Frost Report 20/12/09 0930hrs

We intend to meet as planned (10.45am-11.00am) at Underhill to see if pitches have thawed out enough. If pitches are deemed unplayable, then the backup plan is to congregate at Caswell beach for around 11.30am. siaran99 linkslot99

2009 Review

Well done and a big thank you to everyone who entered into the spirit of the Xmas funday, players and supporters alike. Mr Gregg Fabb wins the fancy dress 1st prize in his red longjohns, although Scott Caplin's hat and Phil Jones' modern dance outfit were a close second and third. I think the Parents proved to be testing opponents, but on the day they weren't quite up to the high standard of the Players. We will have a break this coming weekend (27/12/09)to enjoy the festivities, but we aim to rejoin again on 03/01/10 to play away at Waunarlwydd. Details on times and directions will follow on the blog next week, but for now I'd like to wish you all a very siaran99 linkslot99 Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I have some Kooga Vortex MRFC training tops for those that couldn't make it on the day. I can either distibute them in the New Year, or if you would prefer you can contact me this week if you want to give them out for Xmas. 2009 has proved a mixed bag with gre...

RUGBY CANCELLED SUNDAY 03/01/10

With further sub zero weather forecast for this Sunday, rugby has been cancelled. siaran99 linkslot99

I'd get the sledge out this weekend

With current arctic conditions forecast to continue this weekend it seems highly unlikely that any rugby will be playable. Check the blog again Friday night though, as there is an outside possibility that Morriston might buck the national trend and be hit by a freak tropical warm front to confirm that an away game is on. siaran99 linkslot99

It off!

Unfortunately the early January tropical heatwave that was heading to Morriston RFC is now not heading there. Sadly, once again, there will be no rugby this Sunday. siaran99 linkslot99

Sunday 17th January 2010

Training is at Underhill Park this week (10.30am) with hot dogs at the Rugby Club afterwards (12pm - 12.30pm). (If you are double checking this morning it is confirmed as on.) siaran99 linkslot99

Gowerton Match Report

Gambar
Thanks go to Gowerton for bringing enough players (and a spare ref)and to both our Dads Gareth Jenkins and Tim Ward for their assistance to enable two full games to be played simultaneously. Given the monsoon conditions in November, the frost through December, and the snow in January preventing regular rugby sessions of late, I think we can forgive a little rustiness from us on Sunday. This was more than made up for by a great effort all round however. Following some aftermatch reports, I have checked and there is nothing to say that a penalty should be given for not carrying the ball in two hands (although it is a coaching aspiration). Whilst it may be confusing for the players, it should nonetheless serve as an important lesson for them in the future to think on their feet and adapt to play by the laws by which the ref abides without dissent - (even if they feel he is wrong). I can guarantee that there will be many more instances through their playing of the game! siaran99 linkslot99

How can you assist?

Your many offers of support and assistance are gratefully welcome. LOTTERY - The first junior section weekly lotto tickets will be on sale for £1 pitchside this Sunday 31st with the inaugral draw at the Rugby Club at 1pm. I will be looking for volunteers (parents of the captains each week?) to please share the burden of selling these tickets around the park during the session, so please don't be shy in 'shaking the bucket' together for a couple of laps of the pitch. If there are any budding Alan Sugar apprentices out there who also fancy the challenge of taking more tickets away to sell through the week, then the proceeds and the completed tickets must be returned by the vendor to the rugby club by 1pm the following Sunday. (i. e. please don't bring proceeds to myself the following Sunday, since we may be playing away that week or have made other plans). TRAINING - I will be trying to plan more sessions into smaller groups to benefit the players and include more pare...

Sunday 31st Jan' training at Underhill (by swings)

Training 10.30 am at Underhill Park (next to the childrens play area / swings over otherside of the hedge away from the main car park). Hot Dogs at rugby club afterwards. siaran99 linkslot99

Training Cancelled 31/01/10

Our old friend Jack Frost has been up to his old tricks once again and convinced the ground staff at Underhill that the surface is not safe to be played upon. Fingers crossed for mild dry weather for the rest of the season. siaran99 linkslot99

Swansea Uplands Report & Sunday 14/02/10

A big thank you to Swansea Uplands RFC, who once again provided a spirited and spotsmanlike performance, and many thanks also to Phil and Matthew for helping to develop our squad of 14 players today. It was especially pleasing to see the evidence of the handling skills of our players improving as a direct result of Matthew organising several games of 'Rugby Netball' at the side of the pitch, with the boys also commenting afterwards at the Cricket Club that they very much enjoyed this new game. Both Phil and Myself will be away next weekend (though not together, even though it is valentines day!), but Lee, Matthew and Darren have very kindly offered to hold a training session at Bishopston commencing at 10.30am (since Vadre do not have an U7's team). After training hot dogs have very kindly been offered to be provided at the Cricket Club by Shereen, who I'm sure would accept any more support if it is offered since she is catering for the Vikings, Wilcats and Vadre U8...

Collections and contributions (£5/family) can be given to Rhys Davies (aka 'Ravers') or Matthew Reeves who have also organised food & refreshments to be made available at the club for all. siaran99 linkslot99

Tickets are on a first come basis from Skinny 368989 or Martin Rodwell 360080. Please support your club. Thanks, Robin. siaran99 linkslot99

Your offer of support (e.g. helping with tag belts / water/ substitutions / occupying the spare team on the sidelines while Lee is running with the team playing / lottery tickets / keeping an eye on our kit & eqp't etc etc ) as always would be most gratefully received. siaran99 linkslot99

South Gower Review and Sunday 21st March Arrangements

A big thank you to Lee and everyone else who helped contribute to what I understand was a most enjoyable day at South Gower RFC. You will no doubt be glad to hear that my iron count is fully restored to normal levels following my prescribed course of Guinness in Ireland, so (weather permitting - rain is forecast so please check blog Sunday @10am) training will resume this weekend at 11am at Underhill Park. A big thanks also go to Jan and Emma for organising the hot dogs last time, and to Sara for volunteering this week - unfortunately the Rugby Club have a prior booking and the Cricket Club are not opening, so there will be no after match function. siaran99 linkslot99

Gorseinon match report

Well done to both the Gorseinon and Mumbles teams today who both played with good spirit and with no little display of determination and skill. A big thank you also goes to Gorseinon for continuously fielding a team to give both our teams a good game each, and also for making the effort to return to our clubhouse where Sara and Carol fed the masses with aplomb. siaran99 linkslot99

Use of Mumbles Rugby Club

A big thank you to all of you who regularly make the effort to return to the rugby club after matches and training - your attendance and support is really appreciated (especially given it's location away from the pitch and the difficulties parking etc). Generally, whilst I feel the behaviour of our players has been impeccable to date, can I please highlight to parents their obligations towards junior players at the club:- 1. Whilst no boots are permitted to be worn in the club, junior members are requested to wear clean shoes or trainers at all times since there can be small pieces of glass found on the floors. 2. Junior members are requested not to stand/walk on chairs or benches. 3. Junior members are requested not to run in the club and to keep general horseplay to the dancefloor and immediate surrounding area as tables and the bar area can be loaded with glasses. 4. Junior members are requested to refrain from convening at the window in the corner of the club on the raised plat...

At this meeting the club would also like to discuss proposals for a Junior/Family Fun Day on Saturday 28th August followed by the "Jimmy Cracker 7's" senior's tournament on Sunday 29th August and Bank Holiday Monday 30th August (to recover!). LOOK OUT - THE PREDATORS ARE COMING THIS SATURDAY 24/04/10 @ 10.30am!

Due to the Gower Cup being held this Sunday we aim to celebrate the end of our first season together by giving the current beach team 'Mumbles Predators' (next season's U7's team) a big welcome to rugby on grass at Underhill Park this coming SATURDAY (not Sunday) the 24th April at 10.30am. We will aim to give everyone a game (including any willing parents at the end if we have time!) before a team photo and a short presentation. Volunteers are welcome to offer their services - I will orginase the purchase and delivery of refreshments, but would really appreciate any assistance in the cooking and selling of food and drink on the day. Our aim is to raise funds towards providing a full compliment of jerseys for the Predators next season. London Welsh are also visiting and will require the junior pitch at 12.30pm for a 1pm K.O. against Mumbles U10's so all are welcome to stay on and support this match too, and to return to the clubhouse afterwards to continue to enjoy t...

Tag Finale BBQ Review (Please also see Photo Gallery page on right)

Well what can I say , great rugby played in great spirit with great weather and great company - what a day. A big thank you to everyone who has helped in whatever capacity throughout the season and on our final day, however big or small a contribution, it has all combined to provide a memorable and thoroughly enjoyable experience. I apologise for not being able to name everyone in person who has played a part this year, (no doubt we would still be there now if I had). Needless to say everyone's efforts are really very much appreciated in building our teams and club ever stronger. For the record it's 123 yrs (not 113 yrs as I stated) that the club has been bringing people together to enjoy rugby football and each others company. Talking of figures, we managed to raise a clear profit of £246.55 (11/12 new Jerseys) even after the cost of all medals for both Vikings and Predator teams - Alan Sugar would be chuffed to bits! We will pass on 25 jerseys to the Predators, currently leav...

Lougher & Neath played and Penclawdd 'Donkeys' next up

Gambar
A fantastic job was done by Phil and Lee today (no doubt ably assisted by our ever growing coaching team) in satisfying our equally ever expanding and sizeable squad by playing a triangular set of matches with Lougher and Neath. Training will be 5pm at Underhill again this week with Penclawydd hosted at Bishopston on Sunday 12th - 10.30am. Back to the Rugby Club for hot dogs at 12pm. A massive thank you also to Sam Ward-Jones and Tracy Caplin who along with Tracy Price (from the Predators) faced the trials and tribulations of the Mumbles RFC kitchen. We hope to have catering volunteers from the Wildcats next week when we host Penclawdd at the rugby club(12pm), but there will be plenty of further opportunity through the remainder of the season for other Vikings parents to put up their hands and be counted in the kitchen, so please don't be shy - our hot dogs need you! siaran99 linkslot99

Training 5pm @ Underhill ; Fall Bay (AWAY) Sunday 10.30am

A great result at the Liberty Stadium with a 5:2 win. With another ref taking charge in a more competative type tournament, it wasn't just rugby that was the winner this time! We are through to the next round and more details will be posted in due course for round 2. Thanks to Matthew Gumpter and Steve Ace today for acting as a referee and coach respectively when we hosted Dunvant. The team really showed signs of development and improvement. It was great to see them dropping and spreading across the field after each tag, with a readiness to tag again and put Dunvant under pressure. When in possession it was also really pleasing to see the team supporting the ball carrier, and a number of great team tries were scored with quick passing as soon as they were tagged, (passing to their nearest team-mate in support and not just their best pals). Training this week is again on Friday 01/10/10 at 5pm at Underhill - (and shall remain so from now on until advised otherwised). Sunday 03/10/1...

Rain stops play

Gambar
Despite our best efforts the rain has managed to put a stop to this week's training and match. Fingers crossed for dry weather next week before I make a call to the Chinese air force. siaran99 linkslot99

Gorseinon Review

Some good skills on display today with good support of the ball carrier and quick passing when tagged. In defence there was also evidence of some determination to spread out and line up 'onside' to face the opposition at the point where each tag was made. Especially well done to all 10 players who volunteered to play for Gorseinon to make up their numbers from 6 to 7, and to Evan and Jack who both played a man of the match performance for them! Well done to Cameron, Josh and Jack who all marshalled their respective teams very well in their roles as captains today to reinforce the above objectives. A big thanks to Nigel Truby for assisting with the coaching today of one of our 3 teams from the squad of 21 players that turned out, and to Ginny for carrying on our 'Magic Sponge' and Sara for organising the lottery this week. Thanks to Kevin for volunteering to set up the flags and cones, and if I've forgotten to thank anyone apologies, - I know everyone helps in some w...

Pontardawe RFC (Away) 31/10/10

We are away at Pontardawe RFC this Sunday. Ynisderw Road, Pontardawe, Swansea. SA8 4EG. 01792 864811. Meeting time is 10:30. Directions are a little tricky (players often end up in the nearby Pontardawe Leisure Centre playing fields by accident). Take the A4067 out of Swansea, straight to Pontardawe. On the first roundabout at Ponty, take the second exit (still on A4067) then at the next roundabout (A474) take the exit on the right. This is a straight road, and a dead end, that takes you directly to the playing fields. Map here , see green arrow for pitches. siaran99 linkslot99
